Trekking at Sheans Horse Farm

Sheans Horse Farm and Heritage Centre

TREKKING AT Sheans is for novice riders and beginners, all treks involve getting mounted up, being given instruction in a small enclosed arena before going out on an escorted walking trek. All treks consist of walking out on the tracks, ( trotting is only done outdoors on hacks) On returning to the centre we find that riders balance and confidence has improved and we will take you into the indoor arena, and teach you how to trot. (for those that want to) Riders enjoy the challenge of learning the basics of trotting which is very carefully supervised. This is very popular and is always seen as a personal achievement for all visitors enjoyed by both adults and children, particularly by families. Check us out on Trip Advisor.

Sheans Horse Farm and Heritage Centre

Our team of trusted horses and ponies will take you and your family or friends into the North Antrim Hills. The horses are beautiful and fit and will surprise you with their sureness of foot and superb balance. Compact, intelligent and strong, they are ideally suited to the hills and mountains that surround us.The lower lands of the farm are leafy parkland and as you rise up towards the peak at 280m above sea level the surroundings gently change into wild, open, heather covered slopes around Slieve an Aura.

Sheans Horse Farm and Heritage Centre

The home farm is a traditional hill type farm which rises from the basin of the River Bush at approximately 50 metres to 280 metres above sea level. Feel part of the history as you rise from the fertile river basin up through the heather-covered slopes of Slieve an Aura on the Antrim Plateau – site of the Battle of Aura between the McQuillans and McDonnells in 1583 and savour views to as far away as County Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh.
